163. Much as it Pains Me - Semi-Formal Speaking - Much as it pains me / It pains me to say / It pains me to tell

Much as it pains me (to do sth) : ~하는게 고통스럽지만, ~하기는 싫지만, ~하기는 망설여지지만

It pains me to say : 말하기 괴롭지만

It pains me to tell : 말하기 괴롭지만

 

If an idea or something pains you, it makes you disappointed, distressed

The dog is very old, we are going to put him down much as it pains me

It goes agianst my principles

It goes against what I would like to

You are reluctant to do sth

You are reluctant to accept it

If something pains  you, if causes you to feel sad and upset

Much as it pains me to do this, but I have to do it, I have no alternatives

It pains me but this is what is neccessary
