this is adverbs
we use askance in two ways but both of them talk about looking
1)
if you look at somebody with disapproval or with suspicion or with skepticism, this is askance
he viewd my propoasal askance, with great skepticism
when I promised that I would do it within the next 10 days, he looked at me askance
when I went into the restaurant and I saw that it was very dirty and I looked askance at the food on the table and I left
you distrust it
you disapprove of it
you doubt it
the person on the door of the nightclub looked askance at my scruffy clothes and said you can't come in
a nasty look
to look at something suspiciously skeptically with misgivings
he eyed me askance because clearly he didn't trust me
to look at it scornfully
I look askance at the vendor because there was clearly something fishy
he was so haughty and sonobbish that he looked at everybody askance
2)
we use askance is sideways
he gave me a sideways glance, he look at me askance, he look at me sideways
he looked askance at his watch
you look at it askance, you look at it obliquely, you look at it sidewyas
I looked askance at my friend and told hime it's time to go, let's get out of here
