Syzygy : (천문학에서) 3개 또는 이상의 행성들이 일렬로 있는것, 한 마음, 한 의견, (음양과 같은)상반되는 한쌍
This uses in astronomy
when three planets or three planetary bodies are in a direct line
Syzygy is where the planets or the stars are in a straight line
three planets or three things in a solar system are in an absolute straight line
when the sun, the earth and the moon are in an exact straight line, that's also a syzygy
when the moon is in syzygy with the sun and the earth, then you could have a very very high tides
You can use this syzygy metaphorically saying that three different things are in lines
In politics, it's almost impossible that there is a syzygy of the different political parties in a parliament
If there was a syzygy of ideas or a syzygy of policy they would all work together for the same thing
If you have two people, it's easy to get an agreement. but if you have to get an agreement between three, syzygy is much more difficult, and a syzygy between four people is almost impossible
It can also used rarely to talk about a pair of things that are connected
I guess you could say the syzygy of yin and yang
the pair of opposite things, but this usage is much rarer
Formality : 6.5 - 7
