Desecrate : (신성한 것을)훼손하다

 

Desecrate / Desecration / Desecrated
-> to damage
-> is regared as holy
-> used in religous context
-> to spoil sth that is holy
-> to treat a sacred things or a sacrosanct place with disrespect 
-> many graves were desecrated by the war
-> to violate the sanctity of sth 
-> to profane, be blasphemous, be sacrilegious  
-> to desecrate a shrine 

-> other meaning is to treat disrespectfully, irreverently or outrageously, extremely badly
-> the place was desecrated by the tourist shops, hotels and things like that
-> be damaged 
-> be destroyed
-> to violate the sacred nature of a place of an object it's something blasphemous and sacrilegious action
-> formality 6 - 6.5
-> origin from consecrate which mean that to declare sth as holy

-> meaning is slightly different with "to deface"
-> people regared as holy, important that then becomes desecration 
-> to deface walls/a picture/something like that
