The River Styx : 삼도천(저승의 강)

stygian, this is an adjective, meaning belonging to the river styx
the river styx in mythology, in ancient Greek mythology is the river that separates earth from the underworld
when you die, you have to cross the river styx. I think Romans were normally buried with a coin in their mouth to pay the ferry man to take them across the river styx
the river styx is the river that goes that runs between the Earth the Gaia and the underworld

so stygian, we use it to mean dark, gloomy, infernal, hellish
stygian gloom, it's the dark and gloomy
the stygian light of the cave
the stygian crypt
it's dark gloomy, hell-like
this is a really good word for a horror story ro something like that
extremely unpleasant, extremely dark
the stygian underworld of inner city crime, there I've used it metaphorically
tenebrous, with shadows

notice as wel, the river styx, you were supposed to swear oaths on the river styx and therefore stygian can actually also means a promise that cannot be broken. because it's been made on the river styx
that is to do with classics as well. but normally dark, gloomy, hellish, very depressing
