613. Wiseacre - IELTS Vocabulary - Describing People

Wiseacre : (모르면서 모는걸 아는것 마냥) 되게 아는 체하는 사람, (비록 남보다 많이 알지만 남을 무시하듯) 떠벌리고 아는체 하는 사람

 

 

1)
this is a word to describe a person who seems to know everything or at least pretends to know everything
soembody who are so knowledgeable about everytrhing
this is like a know-it-all 
somebody who appears or wants to be known to know absolultely everything
when there is somebody who is a bit smarmy that they are self-satisfied or that they are sure because they always get it right. you could describe this person as a wiseacre
it's annoying because they always claim to know absolutely everything but maybe they don't
a wiseacre this has got the idea of conceited, they are very proud of themselves becaues they know more than everyone else
a smart alec, a wise guy, a smarty , a wise ass
this is somebody who is pretending to be smart
they are showing everyone quite how well they know everything 
it's fine to know things but to rub it in everybody else's face. that's irritating
it's not the fact that they know a lot, it's the attitude to it

 

 

2)
this can be used either in two ways
first, sombody who pretends to know everything  even if they are wrong
second, somebody who maybe do know a lot more than most people but they are terribly proud and terribly conceited and look down their nose at everybody else

 

 

3)
notice, this word wiseacre, this is quite informal 
this is somebody who an insolent upstart 
soembody who pretends to know more than everyone else
a wiseacre in society always tell us what to do because they know so much better than us

whe only use this word wiseacre, critically being disparaging to somebody
