Afoot : 진행중인, 계획중인, 일어나고 있는,  (미국영어)걸어서, 도보로

it is one of these post-positive adective 
although it can be used as an adverb as well
if something is afoot, it's in progress, it's happening
it's being planned, it's being prepared

in the process of devolopment 
underway
construction is afoot, it's underway, it's going on, it's happening
plans are afoot to hold a concert in this place
in preparation 
in progress
beginning to happen

something is afoot to change
what is afoot, what is happening
there is something afoot, thre is something happening in operation

notice, most normally use it with the verb to be
but if you use it with a noun it's got to come after the  noun because it's post-positive adjective

 

the changes afoot are going to be very radical
the party afoot was making a huge amount of noise
if something is afoot, if you say a plan or a scheme is a foot
it's already happeneing, it's already in motion but you probably don't know a gret deal about it
there was mischief afoot 
construction is afoot, it's underway, it's going on, it's happening

there are tales afoot concerning his honesty

you cna use this as an adverb
the Americans use this word as well to mean on foot , walking, using your feet
I had to go afoot becuase my car wasn't working. but notice this way is very American, I wouldn't use this in British English
