a friends of the court, so they'are being friendly and they're helping the court
amicus curiae, a normally a professional person or a professional organization that the court allows to advise the court on
some matter
but notice, this is not the same as a witness who appears on behalf of one side or the other, and who either speaks for the defense or for the prosecution
But, amicus curiae is just helping the court and is not helping either of the two parties
it's just giving its own unbiased opinion
